Transportation Infrastructure Systems

While highway traffic has doubled in the U.S., the capacity of roads to carry additional traffic remains largely unchanged. More than 25 percent of bridges in the nation are structurally deficient or obsolete, and buses and rail lines are also in marginal to poor condition.

Transportation Infrastructure includes bridges, roads, rail, mass transit, dams, energy production, water supply, levees, and aviation, which serves all modes of transportation. RTI research associates and engineering faculty from the Marshall University College of Information Technology & Engineering focus their efforts on finding the best methods to maintain existing and develop new sustainable infrastructure systems. The results of this research provide industry professionals and engineering experts with best practices for designing and constructing safer, more sustainable transportation infrastructure. Policymakers, transportation officials, and regulatory agencies use the findings to determine the impact of legislation and regulation on our nation’s infrastructure systems.
