A transportation consortium combining the expertise of four universities will have
its organizational meeting Friday in Huntington. The Multimodal Transportation Infrastructure
Consortium is a combined effort of the Rahall Appalachian Transportation Institute
(RTI) at Marshall University, the Kentucky Transportation Center at the University
of Kentucky, the Logistics and Distribution Institute at the University of Louisville
and the Eastern Seaboard Intermodal Transportation Application Center at Hampton
University. The consortium received its initial funding through a $3.5 million grant
from the U.S. Department of Transportation. Robert Plymale, executive director of
the RTI, said Friday’s meeting has several items on the agenda. Among them are putting
together an advisory council that will include members from the private sector,
discussing possible research projects and discussing reporting requirements.
